Anthony Geddis Gaithers freedman being duly sworn deposes and says- I have lived with Dr Suydam the Bureau Doctor, across the road from Lt Leidtke's house [[strikethrough]] during [[/strikethrough]] up to the month of December 1867 and a part of the month of January 1868. While living with Dr Suydam, Lt Leidtke discharged a freedman who worked for him, who was named Martin Parker. When discharged Martin came over and staid with me one night, and the next day he went away: during the time that Martin staid with me no guns or pistols were fired in the vicinity, that I heard. I know Sanford W. Barker, when I see him. I never told him or any one else that Martin told me Lt Leidtke had shot at him. I never heard of such a thing before now. I never saw Lt Leidtke drunk nor I never heard of his turning his wife out of doors. I never heard that Lt Leidtke tried to do what he ought not to do with a woman of my color. I have always heard the people of my color say that they thought Lt Leidtke was a just man. I never heard the white people say anything against him.
