Being a Magistrate for Greenville District I have the honor to state that on the night of the fifth inst one Jerry Carter a very respectable colored man called at my residence & requested a warrant against one John Harrison - white - for stabbing his son Yancey Carter.  From Jerry's statement, I ascertained that the injury was not serious being in the fleshy part of the rump with a pocket knife & told him to come to my office the next morning he feeling as I did, that there was no reason to apprehend an attempt on Harrison's part to avoid arrest.

He came & I wrote out the warrant;  the constable was absent officially & did not return until the evneing of the 7th inst.  After writing out the warrant I explained to Jerry that he could not both prosecute in the name of the State and press an action for damages at
