of Darlington Dist. like the others are backward and need rain  Captain Pingree states that it would take a larger force than he has at his command to bring the recipients of Government assistance within the meaning of the orders, to guard against misappropriation and neglect of the crop  He also states that there is another person issuing Government supplies in his District, of which fact he had no knowledge until one day last week the party referred to came to his office and informed him that he had been instructed by the Assistant Commissioner to inspect Capt. Pingree and Mr Johnson (Agent at Cheraw) and see if they were doing right. The bonds received at Darlington are properly executed, and recorded.

Complaint was made that the corn and bacon came separately and at different times which doubled the labor of issuing.
