In conclusion, I report that generally there are planted on provisions about double the usual amount in proportion to cotton, that the crops are now suffering for rain, and are backward on account of the late spring; otherwise they look promising, having been well worked, with a few exceptions.

The testimony of all whom I met, is, that the freedpeople are working better than ever before. All the Agents make the general statement that it is impossible for them, to carry out, literally, the orders they receive; as riding over the Districts, examining crops &c. They appear
