Bvt. Maj. Edw. L. Deane A.A.A.G.

Major:
[[strikethrough]]I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt on 26th inst. of Communication calling for any facts within my knowledge tending to show the necessity for continuing the Freedman's Bureau or otherwise. [[/strikethrough]]

In reply to said communication I would respectfully state that (I have only been a few days in command of this post, but have seen enough to lead one to believe it would be inexpedient and unwise to leave the freedmen without the protection afforded by the Bureau, until at least a year has expired after the time to which the Bureau is now limited by law)

I am Major
Very respectfully
Your obdt servt
