[[strikethrough]] the weekly allowance of loin and bacon, which making said bale of cotton, (and consumed by said hand) amounts to fifty three dollars, as the lowest price. The Bale of cotton has run him in debt for board, and the poor freedman has only his little share of corn, and cow peas, to feed his children for the whole year, and finish clothing for himself and family, and finish paying for his board, which the cotton left unpaid to say nothing of Doctors bills, and other necessary expenses which a family are obliged to incur. The above is no fancy stretch, but is the result of figures, and proves my assertion, that the freedpeople, either have to work harder and earn more than when slaves, starve, or be supported by the government.
