In the matter of medical attendance alone to which point my observation have been principally confined, it is impossible for them to procure the needed aid in case of sickness without ready money, and that very few of them have. The average number applying to me for medicine for themselves and families is from few to fifteen miles. Were they unable to procure what they wish from me, there would certainly be great suffering among them. I think therefore that the general government, should, in some way watch over them, until they are better able than at present to provide for themselves."
