Charleston So. Ca. Mar 5th. 1868

General:
I have the Honor to transmit to you herewith a petition signed by myself and members of the S.C. Constitutional Convention and Citizens of Greenville District craving the aid of the Bureau of Freedman & R & A L towards the erection of a building for the Schools in the Southern potion of the District

A lot of ground has already been procured near New Prospect and the Citizens have by subscription and gift raised already over 500 dollars toward the building; but now they are unable to procure, and as this amt is not sufficient to erect and complete the building large enough for all the children to be accommodated, I pray that you will recommend our enterprise to the attention of the authorities at Washington and help us to obtain the sum of 500 Dollars with which we will be able to finish our building.
