Sir:
Information having reached me that erroneous statements had been made by one Joseph Crews and others to the Asst Commissioners relative to one Frances Maris (freedwoman) who was arrested on a peace warrent by my wife Kittie Speer and lodged in jail. I therefore would respectfully submit the following statement. 

The aforesaid Frances Maris (freedwoman) came to my house in my absence, and in a loud and boisterous manner demanded of Mrs Speer; two pairs of pillow cases; two pairs of sheets, that she affirmed had J Crews name on; and that Mrs Speer had them: for Mrs Crews said so! and she would have them! Mrs Speer remonstrated with her for thus abusing her, saying she had nothing of the kind belonging to Mr Crews in her house. The aforesaid Frances became very much
