Rev. Joseph Welch:

As my desire is of knowing when will our Schools be on a free scale. I thought you might be satisfied in furnishing me with a happy result of same.

Now I am in San Antonio, that such is a certainty and not knowing till of late, though being apprised often by the Colored people. Shall you pay a visit to my school this Spring.

Would be very glad to have the pleasure of your company a few days, so as you might see my scholars at Drill.

Many of the White Secesh are in the [[?]] about the Scholastic advancements among my pupils, and desire to be at the examination. Suppose the Philosophy of Education abounds at the Capitol, as all preparations are manifest. It cannot be expected, that among my classes, a great degree of Scholarship to be exhibited, as all are but Tyros and only baptized of late.

But for their chance, or Since I came among them, they will compete with any in the State.

Please inform Mr. Otis, that of present I need no books, but after two weeks or so, will make a call - All the scholars are nearly furnished.
