the first one she has made out. She made many apologies for the style of in which it was made out. Mrs. P's two daughters are ten or twelve the other fifteen years of age are particularly smart and intelligent and understand teaching quite well. The [[strikethrough]]Sc[[/strikethrough]] House in which they teach is a two story framed building not ceiled and some of the weather boarding off. Chimney fell down. The house is in a miserable condition for a winter school house. The teacher [[climbs?]] up Stairs. The House was bought by the freedpeople as I learned for 1000$ about 100$ paid down, and God knows when if ever the balance bill be paid. They are anxious that the educational Dept of the Govt should assist them in making the house comfortable. The teachers receiving but a small pittance from the patrons. They wish me to ask the Supt of Education to allow them in addition to the amt paid by their patrons what ever amt he might be willing to allow. I have not visited the School at San Marcos during this month and have had no report from Teacher there. I am very much pressed with business and have not time to write fully as I desire.

Respectfully your obt servt
