I am this moment in Rect of yours of the 7th Inst enclosing order relieving Mrs Patterson teacher. I wrote you that she had relieved hir self long since, you state that it occurs to you that as a conservator of the peace I should have brought those parties to trial at once..

Permit me my dear Sir to inform you that the law does not make it the duty of a conservator of the peace to bring parties to trial until an affidavit is made in writing setting forth the offence committed. I wrote you that I propose to Mrs. P that if she would make an affair I would issue a warrant and have the parties brought to justice. She declined giving for reason that it would detain
