Office Sub-Assistant Commissioner,
BUREAU OF REFUGEES, FREEDMEN AND ABANDONED LANDS, 15th SUB-DISTRICT
Hallettsville, Texas, July 3, 1868

Rev. J Welch
Supt. Schools

Dear Sir, Your favor of 26th Net is at hand, and in reply I would say that I employed Mr. Ames as teacher from 1st of June, subject to your order. He has a good school and is giving satisfaction. His report for June has doubtless reached you by this time.
I have no personal acquaintance with Miss Stell, enquiries are intensely satisfactory. I will see her in a few days and will report the result.
I am somewhat surprised that she would make application to teach freedmen schools, but if she is earnest in the matter so much the better.
I am vy Respectfully,
Your obt. servt.
A. K. Foster S.etc. C. 15th dist.
