Hallettsville, Texas, Oct 8th 1868.

Rev Joseph Welch
Supt Schools
Austin Texas

Dear Sir,
Miss Shaw arrived here safely I thought it would be better not to commence teaching until next monday.

Miss Jose Stell of Sweet Home Texas who made application through Gov. Pease about three months since, announces her engagement at Sweet Home as completed and is now ready to accept a situation a teacher of Freedmens school. She prefers a situation in some other County than Lavaca. As her qualifications are A No. 1 and from the fact of a lady of her position in society to volunteer to teach Freedmen school would I think, have a good effect, I respectfully recommend that she be assigned to such place as she prefers. Her first choice is Galveston 2nd La Grange 3D Houston.
