of slanderous measures, taken to break up my school. On investigation, I learned that a Colored Baptist Preacher was opposing my school & publicly slandered me from the pulpit without any provocation whatever. One of his many statements was, that, I had no Orthority to teach, & advised the Colored people not to patronized the school. From the stir among them, I've listened to some of their reports, & they seemed to think he was induced to do it, by those who opposed a white mans teaching Freedmen in their vicinity, especily, if a member of the League.

The Colored people who patronize my school are mostly farmers & you'll see from my reports that money is very scarce with them therefore I ask an allowance for house rent, to enable me to meet promptly my expenses &c
