Galveston Aug the 11th 1869

I arrived in Galveston on the morning August the 10th and should have informed you of my arrival before but I have not been very well which rendered me unable to write but am now better and I intend opening school on the 1st of September. I have spoken to several of the colored people and from which I understand that there was a colored man expecting to open a school in the M.E. church the same day that I proposed doing so but that they did not think he would refuse to give me the school house.

I have not seen the gentleman you recommended me to for information owing to my not being able to be about but shall try to see him as soon as possible and hope I will be able to receive from him all information and assistance so as to be able to open school on the day above mentioned without any hinderances I do not expect to have
