Dear Sir,
I beg to call your attention to the importance of establishing a Freedman's school at Grant Colony about 4 1/2 miles East of the Town of Huntsville. This settlement has been formed since the beginning of 1866, & contains some 40 families, and I believe would furnish a good school from 40 to 60 scholars 
one of the troubles is that they want a northern man in a teacher & we have none amongst us that will take up a school, they need a man. Genl O. O. Howard donated as appropriated $500 towards a school house at this place, but we have never received any thing as yet. I feel that this is an important point to encourage Education at as these Freed people have settled to themselves and propose to form a community of their own color and here we can test their capacity to become good citizens & self supporting Yoemanry of the country. I hope you will correspond with me upon this subject until we can fully put on foot a No 1 school. I have no doubt but

Perhaps a stretch, but I think that word is *Yoemanry, a misspelled Yeomanry, as in farmers &/or landholding recruits? Odd word choice, but works in context.
