Genl Canby would pay the 500 $ appropriated by Genl Howard if you would ask it and that amt together with private aid from the neighbors & the freedmen would erect such a school house as would be suitable for some years to come & such a one as a good teacher would not be ashamed to teach in, we have a House, now that would answer to commence in provided we could secure a teacher and a good dweling could be rented for a man and family or a single man could find board I distributed on 28th Feby a fine lot of Bibles Testaments & other Books and reserved a number as a beginning fora Sunday School Library which was a Donation from the A.S.S. Union & A.F Commission of N.Y. and if I can get a copetant teacher to cooperate with me so as to establish a good day & Sunday school I can get from same parties many other Books and papers that would be interesting & useful
