I am sir aiding the Freed People to build a Church and School House near town, have preserved a site, do all this meeting. give them timber for any part of the building- such as blocks. Sills. [[?]]. rafters

I wish to know if any government aid can be extended to them - to buy the material, nails, planks - Locks. Hinges - if so please inform me. I will call them together and let them appoint some suitable persons to attend to it
I have a meeting appointed in accordance to their request. Made for 2nd Saturday in May at time  & place in Danville I will read the Constitution-at the same time. I shall make them a short speech, giving my reasons for endorsing the Constitution and At Hamilton governor, and urge them to adopt same at which time if your reply is at hand and favorable. I would take great pleasure, to informing them of the same or any suggestions you may be pleased to make tending to their future good,
I think now sir. from the feelings of the colored people of the county that they expect me to Read and explain the Constitution to them in every Section of the Country- and while doing so upon any occasion I shall urge upon them the great importance of having Churches and School houses, and the great importance of educating their children for many very important reasons. Some of which I may give you at some future time if not inconsistent with your time and feelings- Some men hold themselves aloof from such things unless authoritatively given -
