It is possible that you might give some aid in the erection of a suitable school house at a very little cost all that is necessary is sufficient Boards for the enclosure as the frame-work can all be got out of the forest by which this place is surrounded. I have been requested to say this much in behalf of a school house by the many responsible colored men here, who for the most part profess to be carpenters and would assit in building if the requisite material (Boards, shingles, nails +) were furnished them. I am much opposed however to my people being helped on every occasion as we are accused as a race of being an improvident and paltry set but the present history and the peculiar condition seem to argue otherwise. Send me a few Testaments and whatever else you may have to send to the Freedmen in this part of the country. (in haste)
Very Respectfully
Henry Gomez
