Nacogdoches, Sept. 22/1869.

Rev Joseph Weld
Supt of Ed. B.R.F & A.L.
Austin

Rev Sir.
I take the liberty to ask respectfully whether I will be entitled to a compensation for my teaching colored children since May 1, 1869.

A Gentleman named - Haughn induced me, an old man (73 yrs old) to open a school for the children of freedmen, for which he promised me ($15.00) fifteen dollars U.S. Currency per month. Up to this time I have not received one Cent compensation for my tuition, neither from the Government nor from my pupils or their parents.

Be kind enough Rev Sir, to inform me about this matter and I will be very thankful, Mr Haughn, who called himself Asst Superintendent of Educat. B.R.F & A L. has left here in May R.O. and has never been heard from.
