Brenham May 5th 1870

Dear Sir,

Enclosed I send you a copy of the deed mentioned in your letter  Arrangements have never been made to complete the payment for the house that by Monday next. The house is a large one and well suited for a school house, but to make in comfortable we need means to have it ceiled and to make desks & seats.

We prepared some time ago a petition for assistance to Mr Welch.- but as we were about to forward it, we learned that he left Austin, and did not know of the appointment of another Superintendant of Education.-

If we have the means to complete the house,- and secure the services of reliable & competent teachers we can have from 150 to 200 Scholars attending School. At present the tuition is insufficient to retain the services of Mr Zeuly - who has endeavored to do his duty, & has given satisfaction. There are many now patronizing the school who can only afford
