Nacogdoches Texas Aug the 22, 1869

Mr. Welch

Sir I have given up The House of Mr Wm Helencamp's I have moved my School About one mile and half out of town we are very much confused in our School Affairs here the Freedmans are depending on the government to pay their Schooling by that received I get but very little [[strikethrough]] not [[/strikethrough]] Mr Haughn came here and established those Schools and said he would insure our pay but he is gone and never left directions with us how to proceed I have no news of him yet I had a small school when he came in hear that was paying but he made us all believe that the Government would pay so much of it Mr Welch pleas let me know what to depend on whether to go on or not depending on the government for my pay and if there is any money coming to me pleas let me have it as soon as possible as I am in great needcessity I can't possibly carry on my school without some money unless you would just tell [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] us plainly what to depend on I have no Rept to send out my vacation from the first of july up to the end of Aug I left Mr Helencamp's house
