Bryan, Texas Mar. 5th 1870.
Maj. L.W. Stevenson:

Dear Bro,

We arrived at this place this morning about 3 "o" clock the train having been detained by a break down.

We are now stopping and hope to remain at the house of a Mr. Owens, a white family living near the Freedmen's S. House. This is rather a shabby place beside Houston and I believe wife is awfully homesick, but she will soon get over it when she gets to teaching. I think we are favored in getting a home so easily when board is hard to get.
