Bryan Texas Mar. 28th 1870

Maj. L.W. Stevenson:-

Dear Sir,

We are this morning sitting under our own vine and fig tree. Id est we have rented a house and moved in and wife is happy cooking her own breakfast.

We have to pay $25.00 per month specie in advance for the use of house and furniture. Come and see us, and we will give you bed and board. Or failing in that pay our rent for us if it please thee.

$15.00 per month is the rent of house specie Had a fine S. School of 70 scholars yesterday. Father Burke is here.

An old lady named Curry is teaching here at Woodville. She claims to have a commission from Mr Welsh. It would never do to board - live with the Freedmen. Too many Austin ladies stop in that neighborhood and the place has a bad reputation.

How could I ask my friends to call on me while there?

Yrs Truly,
Warren Norton.
