I believe. Didn't Miss [[Gr?]] [[?]] $20.00 per month? Well 'tis a gift to [[?]] Association not to us.

Navasota is a pleasanter place than this but the Colored Baptist Minister wishes to hold on to that so we can't get in there. At Millison they want a teacher badly, but 'tis a darker town than this. I was talking with a murderer there - Col Myers. Judge Thurman is a good friend but he like all our radical friends is a "carpet bagger" and cannot offer us a home.

His wife loves him so well that she tried to kill him. They live separate. The harvest in & the colored scholars are plenteous, but the teachers are few.

The gentleman who preceded us on this field borrowed $1600.00 of the colored ones, went off and forgot to return. He keeps a saloon now in Louisiana. Father Burke would lay all this to the "Bureau".

Yrs sincerely
