Austin, Texas, April 30. 1868.

Lieut. J.P. Richardson
A.A.A.G.

Some few men in Travis & Williamson counties are in favor of the education of the colored people, but the greater number are opposed to it and will throw any obstacle in their power in the way of education. During the month a teacher has been sent to Georgetown Williamson County.

The free school held in the Campbellite Church has been given up in consequence of the Government having given up the building. Schools are being organized by Messrs. Taylor & Billingsley in Austin - and a school will shortly started at Circleville, Williamson County. All of which will report to this Bureau.

Very Respectfully, &c
