Lieut. J.P. Richardson.
A.A.A. Genl.

The freedmens school has commenced at this place, the freedmen have contracted for a lot upon which they have built a pretty good cabin for a school house.

The man of whom they bought the ground is making threats because they have not paid for the lot. The freedmen in this portion of the country are very poor They have nothing only as they earn it. I have made the arrangement to have the lot deeded to Trustees for school purposes (for Freedmen) forever, if they can pay Fifty dollars for the Lot, the freedmen appear to be taking as much interest upon the subject of education as they are able, the Teacher is very liberal with them in contributing for their School house, and also moderate in his tuition fees

Very Respectfully &c
