The feeling preferredly is in favor of education though the Citizens take little interest in the matter. The Clergymen lately have evinced an amicable feeling towards the colored Church & Sabbath Schools, truly surprising! This is very encouraging. No steps of moment have been taken by the freedpeople towards advancing the interests of education, they are so busily engaged in their crops - that time is too precious at present to devote to school purposes, the interest in the matter is not dead - but simply dormant as the freedmen have to take the initiating steps in regard to building. I can suggest no plan by which assistance would avail at present.

Very Respectfully &c
