Lieut. Chas. A. Vernou
A.A.A.G.

In regard to the education of the freed people, but very little interest is shown outside of the Freed people themselves who are too poor in pecuniary means to make much effort in this direction. they defer all their hopes and [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] attempts in this particular until after their crops for this year shall have been made and realized when they expect to be less tied down by poverty and better able to do something in the way of sustaining schools than they are at present.
