Lockhart. May 31 1868

Lieut, Chas A Vernou.
A.A.A.G.

The freedpeople are greatly inclined to educate their children and have erected a School house at this place for that purpose and a school now in operation, They could be assisted by being supplied with Teachers; It is so unpopular here that no white person will undertake that is anything like competent to teach, in fact. white teachers could not get boarding at a white persons House in this town. They may be assisted by having competent Teachers sent them, they being generally willing to pay for tuition.
