There is very little interest manifested on the subject of education, heretofore efforts have been made to make the freedpeople to take the matter in hand & send their children to school, but with very little success. The freedmen here are very ignorant and seem to have no pride or ambition to educate their children, even the School which I have started from time they dislike to have their children attend, preferring to have their help to make a crop. How they are to enlightened is a grave question for Philanthropists.
