A good feeling exists among the freedpeople upon the subject of education, and considerable exertion in making on their part to learn to read and write, and they are making as good progress as could be expected, considering they have no regular school, but depend upon such private aid as they can find. The freedpeople have built a house for School and Church purposes but are too poor to pay a teacher, and to procure and pay a teacher would be the best manner in which they could be assisted
