Kaufman July 31, 1868.

Lieut. Chas A Vernou
A.A.A. Genl.

The school has been at vacation for the last week or ten days, this being the end of the first session of said school.

On the night of the 23 inst. the school house at this place which was built by the freedmen about six months ago was entered by some person or persons unknown and considerably damaged the same, amounting almost to the destruction of the building, breaking down one corner of it, but I think will be repaired.
