the 1st of Oct with 31 in attendance. I visited him on Monday last and found him progressing favorably with his class Something ought to be done for this man as he has spent his life in teaching Indians freedmen &c and is not able to clothe himself having given freely what funds he has formerly laid by, to build churches & school Houses for the Freedpeople. I should be glad if you could induce the Govt to give him a salary.

I enclosed a deed of a lot in Bryan on which the school House is located, the building needs repairs & I am in hopes the Genl will approve the contract for that purpose.

I expect to visit Anderson in a few days and will report in regard to House for teacher. I have no doubt that one can be rented. Will do all I can in getting up a good school at that point.

Very resp'ctf'lly
