Office S.a.C. B.R &c
Columbia, Aug 31, 1868

Lt. Chas. A. Vernou
A.A.A.G.

The freedpeople are trying to establish schools in several localities, but it is almost impossible to secure uniformity of action, however I have two schools started and hope next month to establish two or three more.

I want teachers and partial assistance in the construction of the buildings.

I should like to build at Brazoria (Est.d cost $600.00) Oyster Creek (200), Gulf Prairie ($200.00) and repair building at West Columbia (150)

The freedpeople will do the work on the buildings
