Office S.A.C. B.R. &c
Bryan City, Aug. 21, 1868.

Lieut. Chas. A. Vernou,
A.A.A.G.

There is a general desire among the freed people to have their children educated, although, they have not been able to do much on account of the loss of crops

I am in hopes the coming year will enable them to establish schools with efficient teachers

It is impossible to obtain good teachers more especially if they are not well paid
