Lt. Chas. A. Vernou
A.A.A.G

The feeling of the white people towards the education of the freedpeople is favorable. I am being organizing a school & have succeeded in starting a small one of ten pupils under the charge of Mr A.P. Rice but without assistance I doubt if he will be able to continue as the f.m. of this Co. are too poor.

At the and of the cotton picking season there could be a very large school established here. The freedmen are anxious to have a school and I would recommend that Mr. Rice be assisted from the school fund, all the f.m. are not able to sustain it themselves.
