Office S.a.C. B.R. &c
Bastrop. Aug 31. 1868

Lieut Chas A. Vernou
A.A.A.G.

On the subject of education there is but little interest manifested by the freedpeople and none by the whites. All the available children are now in the field picking cotton.

The freedpeople have a school building in Bastrop. Sunday services are held in it
