La Grange Sept. 30. 1868.

All are in favor of education. The Church building at this place has been used as a school under the direction of the Bureau,

A portion of the freedpeople who evince a disposition to have nothing to do with the Bureau have rented a building to be used as a school house and have a teacher of their own selection: By the appropriation of $170 about what a Master Carpenter of this place estimated as necessary to furnish the School house [[strikethrough]] above [[/strikethrough]] first mentioned the freedpeople would be very much benefited, the house having no desks and the scholars have to write on low benches

Political difference in the cause of a portion of the freedpeople using the school other than that for which the appropriation is asked
