Crockett, Sept. 30. 1868,

Lt. Chas. A. Vernou
A.A.A.G.

The disposition of the majority of the [[strikethrough]] freed [[/strikethrough]] white people is unfavorable to the education of the colored children, and school house if erected are liable to be destroyed. There are two schools kept by freedmen, there are self supporting and are situated in the rural districts of the Co. The freedpeople are poor and not able to procure Teachers. If the Bureau should furnish two teachers to this Co. I would recommend that they should be colored and residents of of this Co. if possible.
