As a general thing the whites are opposed to the education of the freedpeople : The freedpeople are not doing much now to further the cause of education but will do better when the crops are gathered.

Then education can be furthered by the Bureau furnishing Teachers and paying them small salaries so as to allow the indigent to attend free of charge.
