Paris Sept 30, 1868

Lt. Chas. A. Vernou
A.A.A.G.

The feeling of the white people towards the education of the blacks is extreme opposition. The freedpeople have been disheartened and have fallen into a state of indifference. They feel that if they should succeed in erecting a suitable building for religious and educational purposes, it would be burned. In the present state of affairs all hope is gone.
