Austin Sept 30, 1868

Lieut. Chas. A. Vernou
A.A.A.G.

Hostile. A new school house is being built in Austin. There seems to be a falling off in the interest the freedmen have taken in the schools. The Georgetown school does not increase as anticipates, and I have heard of no effort being made by the freedpeople at Circleville to raise another school though the matter has been laid before them several times, no progress is reported.

The School teachers (ladies) at Georgetown have been insulted, but I do not think that this will be repeated.

There are a few plantation schools started in this Sub Dist which I think will prove very beneficial.
