Sir:

No feeling is expressed upon the subject in Red River County, no effort has been made to promote education among the freedpeople by the by the whites and the colored people are making none themselves - It is believed that no practical good can result by agitating the subject at present, the opposition on the part of the whites would but expose the freedpeople to new persecutions that had best be avoided. 
This proved that school in Bowie Co. has closed. a letter written the teacher some time ago has not been replied to and no report has been received.
