Sir: The freedpeople, most of them, are anxious to learn to read, but get no assistance from the white population, nor have they a teacher, therefore, but slow progress is made, some of the young people are advancing by their own exertions. It would be a great assistance to the Colored people, if a teacher could be sent to them, adults as well as children would attend.
