To C. S. Roberts
A A.A. General.
Bureau of R.F. and A.L.
Austin, Texas.

Sir

As far as the whites are concerned in regard to the education of the freedmen they are generally in favor of it, but the freedmen themselves seem to be totally indifferent, since I have been here I have started one school which failed for want of support: the freedmen seem to be waiting for the Bureau to pay their tuition.

I have now another teacher with me who proposes to open tomorrow, perhaps he may be successful in inciting an interest among the freedmen in regard to the schools.

I am Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servant
