La Grange the 21st April 1868.

Joseph Welsh Esqr.
Galveston.

Sir.
Since my last communication to you, several changes have taking place in regard to our school

Mr Thompson, who was our teacher, when you inspected our school, proved wholly incompetent and we were compelled to discharge him - Mrs. Matthews who was recommended by you, was not pleased with our town and school arrangements, and consequently left the place without ever commencing to teach.

Since then a Mrs. Westerfield has undertaken to instruct our children; she is well pleased, seems to be a good teacher and gives satisfaction to all the parents. She has employed a colored man of this place as assistant teacher, there are about fifty children regularly attending school
