Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 8th inst enclosing the appointment of Miss Mary Mathews  I did wish Mr. Clair to go to Hallettsville. That place has been detatched from my Sub Dist, & I believe they have a teacher. I should like a good teacher for La Grange.

All our difficulties are satisfactorily settled, & we have the promise of as good a school as there is in the State. Mr. Gooden late of Wharten Co is the principal. Genl Clark has promised us liberal contributions of books & maps. I wrote several times last month for blank reports — but received none
