D. Sir:
It affords me great pleasure to learn that my course in regard to school matters meets your approbation — also that you will be with us so soon — 

Mr Gooden, without notice though, I am not altogether blameless, for the first step, made his arrangements with the Trustees at La Grange & posted off without ceremony. As soon as I found out the state of matters here, I wrote Mr Keating not to take any action — but for one of them to come here. I imagine he is there & Miss. W. is teaching with him.

It is only recently that I found out how badly Mr. G. did behave in other respects
